While legislative advocacy is often front-and-center at America's Credit Unions' Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), your League is always seeking opportunities to engage with regulators, as well.

Chief Advocacy Officer JT Blau met Sunday with National Credit Union Administration Board Vice Chairman Kyle Hauptman to discuss a number of issues, including credit union board meeting frequency, challenges facing board and supervisory committee members, and upcoming call report changes.

"It's important that we communicate with regulators about both the challenges and potential opportunities we have in serving our members," said Blau.

From a League standpoint, we remain engaged with the NCUA Board on a host of issues, including:

  • Strategic and budget priorities
  • Agency expenditures
  • Field-of-membership reforms and enhancements
  • Success for credit unions of all sizes
  • Consumer financial protection issues
  • Transparency in Call Report changes
  • Flexibility in managing risks (interest rate, credit, liquidity)
  • Cybersecurity
  • Fraud
  • Emerging technologies
  • Formation of an advisory council of credit union executives to interact directly with the board and agency
  • Development of a metric for measuring the costs borne by credit union members in funding NCUA in relation to the performance and relative success of credit unions within the financial services industry
