Duties:
CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union is searching for a Business Development Specialist.
Position Summary
Responsible for growing the Credit Union’s membership base by attracting new account relationships and expanding existing account relationships; primarily focusing on activities with our Field of Membership, charitable organizations and small businesses to build member share of wallet. This position requires the ability to communicate effectively with current and prospective members as well as the positive promotion and representation of our Credit Union brand.
Major Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development of the Business Development Plan and responsible for maintaining, updating and implementing the plan.
- Serves as the primary liaison between the credit union and employee groups. Pursues leads on potential new sponsor groups and calls on prospective new companies to meet new company engagement goals.
- Calls on management and/or contact personnel at current member companies to provide quality service for current members and promote the possible addition of new members and to schedule credit union presentations.
- Coordinates and presents Financial Education Seminars for Select Employer Groups, student and community groups.
- Plans and implements branch business development and community events.
- Reports on sales activity, administers and maintains an effective reference file listing names of contact personnel at current member companies.
- Establishes relationships within financial community participating in local roundtable meetings, networking with other leaders within our industry and establishing “best practices” for CommonWealth One. Represents credit union at special events, public relations effort, local legislative and credit union league activities.
- Conducts re-engagement activities that include direct mail and follow-up communications to inactive members as well as members who clicked on non-loan product links in marketing emails.
- Handles new member account requirements for all incentive programs, including reengagement programs.
Requirements:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of sales and business development experience.
- Background in financial services, business banking, and/or lending, preferred.
- Demonstrated strength in sales, organization, working independently, prioritization.
- Financial Counseling Certification, preferred.
Skills Required
- Effective public and presentation skills in both one-on-one and group situation.
- Business writing; articulate and persuasive communication style.
- Ability to analyze and present data to Marketing Department team and other leaders.
- Proficiency with business computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, banking platforms)
- Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable, able to see the big picture concurrent with managing the details, requires minimal supervision. Maintains confidential information.
- Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
Performance Expectations:
- Retains and expands existing account relationships and acquires new members.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of the credit union policy and procedures regarding field of membership requirement and service offerings.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable federal regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, Security and OFAC.
- Collaborate with management and executive team.
- Demonstrate and support CommonWealth One’s Core Values and Mission.
- Professional demeanor at all times.
- Keep updated with CommonWealth One’s products/services/information and issues affecting the financial business environment.

Other Pertinent Information
- Regular and satisfactory attendance required.
- Must maintain an acceptable personal credit history and be bondable.
- Available to work outside of regular business hours.
- Available to travel in Northern VA and Harrisonburg areas
- Travel overnight periodically
Summary of Physical Demands:
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to convey detailed or important instructions and ideas accurately, audibly and quickly; hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information; use hands to perform such tasks a computer typing, file maintenance, using telephones, ten key adding machines and related office equipment; visual acuity required to prepare, read, and inspect documents and interpret information on a PC screen. This position requires local travel for site visits to sponsor groups and events. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
