League Amps Up Advocacy Initiatives on Interchange

Authored By: Lewis Wood on 8/8/2022

Your League is working to combat a bill in Congress that would alter the current interchange system.

The bill would allow merchants to route payments through an unaffiliated network, potentially bypassing established secure payment networks. Your League and our system partners strongly oppose the bill, arguing that routing mandates on credit cards will lead to less secure, less innovative, and higher-risk transactions for American consumers.

  • We've launched an action alert you and your members can use to contact your lawmakers on the interchange bill.
  • We recently sent letters to our Congressional delegation.
    Sen. Warner
    Sen. Kaine
    Members of the House
  • We signed onto a joint letter with other system partners.
  • We'll meet tomorrow in-person with Rep. Ben Cline (R-6th) on interchange and other issues. Representatives from five credit unions will join us.
  • We're setting up meetings with all members of our Congressional delegation to discuss this issue.
  • We'll forward letters to key lawmakers from outside Virginia to ensure they understand the negative impacts of this bill on all consumers.
