- Peoples Advantage Announces Service Philanthropic Extension, Peoples Advantage Helping Hands, and First Executive Director, Shanika McClelland
January 31, 2024Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union (PAFCU) announces its philanthropic extension to the Credit Union, Peoples Advantage Helping Hands (PAHH), the 501(c)3 to serve as the backbone to fill financial gaps that negatively impact historically marginalized community members. As a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), PAFCU aims to meet the needs of communities that are often challenged with lower income levels and neglected by mainstream financial services. This extension will allow the credit union to partner with PAHH to expand access to free financial coaches and new loan products designed to build wealth in the community.

- Tidewater Chapter Seeks Nominees for Education Scholarship
January 30, 2024The Tidewater Chapter is accepting submissions for its 2024 Leigh Ann Graham Scholarship (formerly the Jack E. O’Connor Scholarship). The Scholarship provides support for deserving high school seniors who are members of Tidewater Chapter credit unions. Applications must be postmarked by April 16, 2024, to be eligible for consideration.

- Chartway Co-Sponsors Appearance of Nelson Mandela’s Grandson at Norfolk State University to Kick-Off Black History Month
January 29, 2024Ndaba Mandela learned much from his legendary grandfather, civil rights leader Nelson Mandela. The younger Mandela will share how he is continuing his grandfather’s legacy on his own terms during an appearance at Norfolk State University on Wednesday, Jan. 31. The event, which begins at 5 p.m. at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center on the campus of Norfolk State University, serves as the kickoff for NSU’s Black History Month commemoration and is free and open to the public.

January 11, 2024Virginia Credit Union, Inc. (VACU) and Member One Federal Credit Union (Member One) are excited to announce their plans to merge, pending regulatory approval, and a positive Member One membership vote. If approved, the combined credit union would serve close to 500,000 members with 37 branch locations and approximately 1,100 employees throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
