Virginia Beach, VA (November 1, 2023) – Chartway Credit Union has been named honoree of The Civic 50 Hampton Roads by VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads and Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. This award acknowledges Chartway as one of the most community-minded companies in Hampton Roads, determined by an independently administered and scored survey. The Civic 50 Hampton Roads initiative, modeled after Points of Light’s national program, provides a standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcases how companies can use their time, talent, skills and resources to drive social impact in their company and communities.

“We value community because the people we serve and the places they live are all connected and thrive together – it’s one of our core values,” said Brian Schools, Chartway Credit Union president and CEO. “I’m grateful VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads and Points of Light selected Chartway for this honor. We are in esteemed company, and this recognition reminds us to remain steadfast in serving our members, our communities and each other.”

"Chartway's unwavering commitment to our community shines bright as they are honored among The Civic 50 Hampton Roads for 2023. Their exceptional dedication to service is not just a number on paper; it's a testament to their heart and soul,” said Liz Pasqualini, VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads vice president of community engagement. “With the highest percentage of employee participation through volunteerism in the large business category, Chartway exemplifies the true spirit of community engagement. Congratulations to Chartway for their remarkable achievement in making a meaningful difference in the lives of Hampton Roads residents."

Companies selected for The Civic 50 Hampton Roads demonstrate a commitment to becoming a supporter and stewards of community resources and improving the area where they work and live. This group sets the standard for civic engagement and creates a roadmap for companies seeking to propel social impact in their company and community. Selection is based on four dimensions of an organization’s community engagement program – investment of resources, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies and systems and impact measurement.

The Civic 50 Hampton Roads survey is administered by True Impact, a company specializing in helping organizations maximize and measure their social and business value. It consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform the scoring process.
