New Director Rohit Chopra Says CFPB Looking Out for Families, Workers and Communities
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra offered his thoughts on the CFPB's role in a post on Tuesday, shortly after being sworn in to lead the organization.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to lead such an outstanding organization," reads the post. "This is an extremely fragile moment for our economy and our country. We have experienced an uneven recovery, as many families and businesses continue to feel left behind. COVID-19 has also put into clearer focus the longstanding systemic and structural barriers we must overcome to build a more inclusive economy."
"We look forward to working with Director Chopra on the regulatory issues that matter to our member credit unions,” noted League President/CEO Carrie Hunt. “The agency has a full agenda, including new proposals such as the small-business data collection proposal, possibly revisiting rules to restrict payday lending and rework debt collection, plus other initiatives on fintech, all of which directly affect credit unions or the marketplace in which we operate.”
