DuPont Community Credit Union
The Virginia Credit Union League recently announced DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) as the winner of the 2021 Louise Herring Philosophy In Action Award in the greater than $1 billion asset-size category.
DCCU received first place for its unique community campaign – Dine Out and Make a Difference. At a time when local restaurants were seeing dramatic decreases in business because of the pandemic, the Dine Out and Make a Difference campaign encouraged members to use their DCCU credit card to support restaurants. Whether they chose dine-in, carry-out, or delivery, they received additional rewards points.
Additionally, DCCU donated 1% of all restaurant purchases to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank to aid their mission of helping to alleviate hunger in our community. As a result of the campaign, DCCU donated $13,394.58 to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, which equates to approximately 53,578 meals for families in our community.
“At the heart of our business is the suite of products we offer our members,” said Steve Elkins, DCCU’s President and CEO. “DCCU has great rates and benefits and this campaign is an example of how we enhanced those benefits to make an even greater impact to our members and our community.”
The Louise Herring Philosophy In Action Award honors credit union supporter, advocate, and champion, Louise Herring, and recognizes the practical application of the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People” through the development of programs and services that benefit credit union membership. DCCU’s winning entry will be considered for CUNA’s National Award, which will be announced at a later date.
