League Training for Volunteer Officials
Volunteer Orientation Program
This program helps newly elected volunteers become familiar with their duties and responsibilities. They will learn about the unique mission of credit unions, including history and structure; financial concepts; and job descriptions for volunteers.
Understanding Financial Reports for Non-Financial People
This topic need not be the source of fear for non-financial volunteers. Everyone involved should understand the financial objectives of your credit union and the methods necessary to achieve those objectives. This session helps explain basic asset/liability management, income statements and other financial reports.
Effective Credit Union Boards
This session helps the board understand the delicate balance between management and board duties and responsibilities. Creating policy, providing CEO direction, and legal liabilities are among the topics explored.
Supervisory Committee Duties and Responsibilities
The on-going review and evaluation of issues such as internal controls, hiring outside auditors, conducting the supervisory committee audit, and presenting the audit report are discussed during this session.
Recruiting and Retaining Volunteers
This session looks at why people volunteer, and why they don’t volunteer. Methods for recruiting and retaining the best volunteers are discussed.
