Student Loans

The need for financial aid is growing, and the single largest source of student aid is the U.S. Government. The Government guarantees student loans through a program called Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program. There are three types of FFEL Program loans and a consolidation option:

  • Unsubsidized Federal Stafford
  • Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
  • Federal Consolidation Option

Participating in the FFEL Program offers significant benefits for your credit union:

  • Good rate of return
  • Low interest rate risk
  • Sizeable market
  • Guaranteed loans
  • Cross-selling opportunities

CUNA Mutual Group utilizes Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation, a non-profit corporation, as guarantor and servicer.
