Subject: Training Brochure Available to on Recognizing Elder Financial Abuse
Your League has published a new training brochure for credit union staff, offering tips on recognizing and
reporting suspected elder financial abuse. This brochure is available at no charge to affiliated credit unions.
The Virginia affiliate of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has been making a push in the Virginia General Assembly to require financial institutions to report all suspected cases of elder financial abuse, with the possibility of levying a civil penalty against credit union staff who fail to report such abuse.
While credit unions understand the importance of protecting their older and disabled members, we do question the need to codify required reporting, especially if it carries monetary penalties for credit unions and their staffs.
Our tri-fold brochure tells our lawmakers that we take this issue seriously and we hope you’ll ensure your staff members receive a copy and appropriate training on this issue. Place your order now by filling out the form below.
