Nine stellar education sessions are on tap at this year's Annual Meeting!

THURSDAY, May 6 | 2:30 p.m. Sessions

(1) Credit Union Security & Fraud Prevention

Facilitator: David Reed

Got fraud? It seems that every year there is another MAJOR data breach or fraud scam to worry about. From TJ Maxx to Heartland to phishing, vishing and identity theft; security remains one of the top concerns for our staffs and volunteers.

As if that were not enough, our members constantly list security as a top consumer concern in surveys and they are looking to the credit union to keep them safe in a dangerous financial world. Are you doing everything you can to protect your members’ information and your credit union’s assets and reputation?

David’s session will focus on credit union safety by examining both internal security and external fraud.

(2) Leadership for Women

In this breakout session you will hear what might be holding you back in your career. Discover tools and techniques you can begin to use immediately to take control of your career, while our assessment tool gives you a better understanding of where you are in charting and hitting your personal goals along your career path.

(1) Boomers Or Bust — Why Baby Boomers Remain a Critical Demographic for Credit Unions

It's no secret that Boomers will transform what it means to "retire." Knowing what lies in the minds of Boomer retirees, especially those who are also credit union members, is essential to delivering the right member-centric solutions.

Our expert speakers will reveal CUNA Mutual Group's proprietary Voice of Member research that is sure to help your credit union be successful in building strong relationships with Boomers that will last throughout their retirement years.

(2) Vendor Due Diligence: It's No Longer A Choice

(3) Economic Overview: Conditions Improving

Facilitator: Dr. Ann Battle Macheras

Economic conditions, both nationally and in Virginia, are showing signs of recovery. Most predictions are for the economy to improve slowly in 2010, but the recovery may be uneven across economic sectors and regions of the country.

Employment, a key driver of credit quality, may continue to fall in the near-term and is expected to recover slowing during early stages of the recovery.

This presentation will cover the national economic outlook and will highlight differences in Virginia's statewide economy as well as her major metropolitan areas.

(4) What If…Credit Unions Made History?

Facilitator: Kelley Parks

We are at a pivotal moment in time. Consumer frustration with banks and credit card companies is at an all-time high, while members are waking up to the importance of thrift, community and trust. How do we capitalize on this critical juncture to advance the ideals of the credit union movement?

That's just what 16 Richmond-area credit unions asked when they came together to create a cooperative grassroots campaign that dared locals to ask: "What if there were a financial alternative?"

Kelley will share the strategy this group of marketers used to create the campaign, as well as other low-cost and innovative ways we can utilize our founding principles to capitalize on this extraordinary time. Now is the time to amplify the principles behind our movement to propel us forward.

FRIDAY, May 7 | 3:00 p.m. Sessions

Facilitator: Panel includes Richard Gose, senior vice president of political affairs for the Credit Union National Association & League President Rick Pillow

Invest in the future of your credit union by boosting your grassroots advocacy efforts with our state and federal legislators. The Credit Union National Association’s Richard Gose, the senior vice president of political affairs, is scheduled to join our panel that will also include a representative of the League's Richmond lobbying team.

The theme is “All Politics Is Local” and the only way we can drive that point home to our lawmakers is for you to be involved in advocacy!

Grassroots advocacy means supporting bills that help credit unions, and fighting bills that hurt credit unions. This session will also include a legislative overview of state and federal issues of particular interest to credit unions.
