Are You Ready for ‘Penny Wars?’
Beginning in January and running through Annual Meeting 2010, our credit unions and chapters are challenged to participate in Penny Wars, a Community Involvement Committee fundraiser for Children’s Miracle Network.

Here’s How It Works:
- Each individual Chapter will challenge its credit unions to collect change in their lobbies and at meetings and special events.
- Your goal is to collect as many pennies as possible toward your credit union and Chapter totals. Each penny you collect is worth one positive point.
- Your credit union can also collect “silver” coins — nickels, dimes, and quarters — that your Chapter can then use to sabotage competing Chapters. Nickels deduct 5 points from your challengers’ point totals, dimes deduct 10 points, and quarters 25 points. Your credit union should coordinate with your Chapter on sabotaging competitors.
- Remember, you can begin collecting coins in January.
- At the League’s May 6-8 Annual Meeting, we’ll continue the competition, crowning the winning Chapter (the one with the most positive points) at the Friday Night Banquet!
We’ll also recognize the credit unions that collected the most money.
Awards will be given to credit unions for the largest sum collected (silver coins and pennies) and the most pennies collected.
WE NEED YOUR DONATIONS NO LATER THAN APRIL 30
Be sure to have your collected donations to us no later than April 30! We need to wrap up the credit union competition by then. The chapter competition will continue at the Annual Meeting. When you forward your credit union contributions, we need to know:- The amount of pennies you collected,
- The amount of silver coins you collected and
- Which chapter your credit union would like to sabotage with your silver coin donations.
Send your donations to:
Virginia Credit Union League

PO Box 11469

The credit union “competition” will be based on asset size.
Please Note:
- We’d love photos of your fund-raising efforts. Please e-mail them to pr@vacul.org.
- Also, come Annual Meeting, we don’t expect you to cart along all those coins — unless you want to! We would, however, love photo evidence of your coin-collecting prowess to share with your competitors.
Please cut a check for your credit union’s fund-raising total, which we’ll then combine with your Chapter’s total. As noted, we’ll recognize both the chapter and credit unions with the highest point total (chapter) and most money collected. - Also, cut separate checks for the “silver” coins you collected for any chapters you’d like to sabotage! You can attempt to sabotage as many competing chapters as you like.
- Your League has a supply of plastic jars, which were kindly donated by UTZ Quality Foods. You can download a graphic here if you'd like to "wrap" your collection jar. (PDF, 900kb)
