MDCU Initiative Pays Off with Visit by Rep. Griffith

Last week, Martinsville DuPont Credit Union had a surprise with its meeting with Angie Hall, field representative of Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-9). Besides the Congressman’s aide, the Congressman himself showed up!

MDCU’s Andrew Reynolds and Kevin Laine report that the unexpected visit with the Congressman was very productive. Both Kevin and Andrew prepared themselves with information on MDCU’s efforts on small loans and financial literacy, as well as with the Reality Check Impact Report on credit unions across the Commonwealth.

They report that the conversation focused on the following four points:

  • Micro Loans & the MDCU service area’s high unemployment rate
  • Virginia-based credit unions’ lending power
  • Dodd-Frank affects CUs too [asked the congressman to mention CUs when he refers to banks having to comply]
  • Tax Exempt Status is important to credit unions and the millions of consumers who depend on us for consumer-friendly financial services.

Kudos to Kevin and Andrew for leading the charge and educating Rep. Griffith about issues of critical importance to credit unions!
