League Visits All Congressional Offices as Part of Efforts at CUNA GAC

Your League’s Karin Sherbin wrapped up two days of visiting with legislative aides in every single office of our Virginia delegation.

Thanks to Gary Tucker of Eastman Credit Union and David Woodruff, formerly of Commonwealth One and still a Wittman constituent, for attending the meetings with the staff from the 9th and 1st Districts respectively.

What we heard: everyone is on board with regulatory relief, nothing in the near future on housing finance reform, and MBL and capital are still going to be tough issues, though we know credit unions are up to the task!

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11) is once again a co-sponsor of our MBL legislation, so we look forward to thanking him at today’s (Feb. 27) Congressional Luncheon.

And so far, none of our Congressional offices have heard discussion about targeting the credit union tax exemption. But, it’s early yet, and we fully expect bankers to build on the work they’ve done to target our tax exemption.

In fact, check out the latest ads from the American Bankers Association.
