League Helps Welcome Past Three House Speakers to Lynchburg

An historic event in Lynchburg this weekend as current and former politicos from across the commonwealth trekked to the Hill City to pay homage to Del. Lacey Putney, the longest-serving legislator in Virginia history. The 84-year-old Putney, of Bedford, is retiring after 52 sessions in the Virginia General Assembly.

Putney, a conservative independent began his tenure in the House as a Democrat in 1962. He left the party later that decade and has been re-elected as an independent since. He has caucused with the Republicans since 1998.

Dels. Ben Cline and Kathy Byron also attended the event honoring Putney and thanked credit unions for their support.

Del. Scott Garrett, who attended our League Annual Meeting, voiced strong support for Virginia credit unions.
