Del. John Cosgrove (R-78) faces off May 9 against his Republican challenger for the GOP nomination for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Harry Blevins. The Senate district covers part of Chesapeake, Franklin City, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Southampton, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.
Cosgrove is a member of the House Commerce and Labor Committee, which oversees much of the legislation sought by credit unions. As such, the League has worked closely with Cosgrove and appreciated his support of credit union issues over the years. The League Board of Directors recently endorsed Cosgrove because of that support.
Cosgrove’s campaign anticipates lines being long at the polls, and have issued the following statement: Voters should expect this and leave themselves enough time to vote. Anyone in line when the polls close will be allowed to vote. The folks on the other side are committed and will be out there as long as it takes. We cannot have our folks turn away after five minutes if they grow impatient.
At the League, we call upon credit union people residing in the 14th state Senate district to go to the polls Thursday in support of Cosgrove. We have a list of polling places if you need that information. We also ask that you consider volunteering on the Cosgrove campaign even if it is just on Thursday. Campaigns usually need people to make Get Out the Vote calls on election day.
