U.S. Senate candidate Timothy M. Kaine will have a coveted speaking role at next month’s Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. Kaine, a former governor and Democratic National Committee chairman, is locked in one of the nation’s most competitive Senate races against George Allen, who’s fighting to win back the seat he lost in 2006 to Jim Webb, who is now retiring.
Along with Kaine, it was announced today that other speakers would include: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, U.S. Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass. and Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. Former President Bill Clinton, and Massachusetts U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren will also speak. San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will serve as the keynote speaker.
On Aug. 10, The Virginia Credit Union League announced its endorsement of former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine in his bid for the U.S. Senate.
“Decisions made in Washington have a direct impact on credit unions’ ability to provide affordable financial services to their member-owners,” said Rick Pillow, president of the Virginia Credit Union League. “Gov. Kaine will be an effective partner and understands the difficulty of the legislative and regulatory environment. He is the best choice to help stimulate our economy and get our country back on track.”
