Four League-endorsed political candidates won their primary challenges June . They are Democrat Rosalyn Dance of Petersburg, and Republicans Bobby Orrock of Thornburg and Todd Gilbert of Woodstock. Endorsed candidate John Cosgrove, Republican of Chesapeake, earlier won his primary for the right to run as the Republican’s Senate candidate for the seat being vacated by Harry Blevins.
League-endorsed candidates Beverly Sherwood and Joe May lost in primary their respective primary battles. Both delegates had supported this year’s landmark transportation reform bill, an issue that divided Republicans, with some hailing it as a necessity to jumpstart Virginia’s moribund highway construction program and alleviate traffic gridlock in the state’s economic engines of northern Virginia and Hampton Roads. Republican conservatives called it the largest tax increase in Virginia history.
