Virginia's Credit Unions Donate $214,191 to CMN Hospitals in 2012
The Virginia Credit Union League and its affiliated credit unions celebrated the 10th anniversary of their partnership with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in grand style, collectively raising $214,191 for the charity in 2012. The funds raised marked the second-highest annual total over the course of their decade-long partnership.
The Virginia Credit Union League also reported another milestone for the 10-year-old charity partnership, with the state's credit unions having surpassed, as of December 2012, the $1.5 million fundraising goal they had hoped to achieve by year 10 of the collaboration. In total, Virginia's credit unions have raised $1.68 million for their charity partner.
"Credit unions are proud to partner with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and to do our part to ensure our children's hospitals have the resources they need ," said Viki Frankenburger, chairman of the Virginia Credit Union League/Credit Unions Care Foundation of Virginia Community Involvement Committee and an employee of Richmond-based Virginia Credit Union. "Every child deserves the hope and healing of children's hospitals, and each year credit unions all across Virginia are sponsoring fundraisers, big and small, to support that goal."
A portion of Virginia-based credit unions' giving to CMN Hospitals was made possible by the Credit Unions Care Foundation of Virginia, a charitable organization formed by the Virginia Credit Union League and its credit unions in 2009. Last year, the Foundation donated more than $50,700 to CMN Hospitals and other charitable and community organizations, including Superstorm Sandy relief efforts.
Virginia’s credit unions are among the sponsors of the Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten-Mile Run, a world-class foot race held each April in Washington, D.C. Credit unions use their sponsorship of this event to raise funds for CMN Hospitals, with $515,000 donated in 2012 alone. Credit unions have raised more than $5.5 million since assuming the title sponsorship of the race in 2001.
Nationally, Credit Unions for Kids, an umbrella brand through which credit unions and affiliated organizations support children’s hospitals, raised more than $10.2 million for CMN Hospitals in 2012. Through Credit Unions for Kids, the credit union system and its partners have raised more than $110 million for CMN Hospitals since 1996.
In addition to CMN Hospitals, Virginia's credit unions reported $570,460 in donations to other charities and community organizations in 2012, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
