Fairfax County Federal Credit Union announces the retirement of Board of Directors Vice Chair Lila M. Carnevale after 34 years on the Board and a total of 46 years of distinguished volunteer service to the Credit Union.

“Lila has played a key role in the Credit Union’s success,” said Joe Thomas, President and CEO. “She has been instrumental in the growth of Fairfax County Federal Credit Union from $407,000 in assets in 1966 to over $280 million today. We thank her for her dedication and service, and we all wish Lila the best.”

Ms. Carnevale’s service to Fairfax County FCU began in 1966, when she joined the Supervisory Committee. She served on that committee from 1966 – 1974 and 1978 – 1979, and was Chair for seven of those years. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 1979, and has served as a Director since then, including 26 years as Vice Chair.

Ms. Carnevale’s term officially ended at the Credit Union’s Annual Meeting on April 23. She was named Fairfax County FCU’s first Emeritus Board Member at the meeting. Brian Waymire, a member of the Supervisory Committee for the last 9 years and an Associate Board member for the last 5 years, was elected to fill her seat on the Board. Board member Roberta “Bobbie” Deegan was re-elected to the Board at the meeting, also.

A Board resolution expressing gratitude for Ms. Carnevale’s service cites the hundreds of hours she has devoted to Board business, and countless hours more in educating herself on financial matters, credit union operations and best practices of volunteer governance.

The Board’s resolution commends Ms. Carnevale for “her dedication to improving the financial wellbeing of the members of the Fairfax County Federal Credit Union” and adds “our sincere appreciation, love, and best wishes to Lila, our friend and mentor.”

Fairfax County Federal Credit Union, headquartered at 4201 Members Way, Fairfax, VA, serves about 15,000 members and has over $280 million in assets.
