Fairfax County Federal Credit Union opened on a normal schedule today (Friday, July 12) following a fire yesterday at its headquarters and main branch at 4201 Members Way, Fairfax.

Phone and online services are expected to be restored during the day today.

The fire originated on the roof in an area where workers were making repairs and spread to an outer wall. The three-story building’s interior sustained minor smoke and water damage. Cause of the fire is under investigation, and there is no estimate of damage amount yet.

Members, staff and contractors were safely evacuated when the fire alarm sounded shortly after 3 p.m. Fire and police personnel quickly responded. Route 29 in front of the building was briefly shut down as a safety measure.

“We’d like to express our sincere appreciation to the men and women of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department as well as the Fairfax County Police Department for their tremendous efforts in protecting the lives of those in the building and the building itself,” said Joe Thomas, Fairfax County FCU President and CEO.
