The Virginia Credit Union League, the state trade association for the 179 not-for-profit credit unions based in the commonwealth, has endorsed Del. Joe May in his re-election bid for the Virginia House of Delegates' 33rd District.

The Virginia Credit Union League, the state trade association for the 179 not-for-profit credit unions based in the commonwealth, has endorsed Del. Joe May in his re-election bid for the Virginia House of Delegates' 33rd District.

A 20-year veteran of the state legislature, the Republican and businessman currently chairs the House's Transportation Committee, while also sitting on the key Appropriations Committee.

"Del. Joe May understands business and recognizes the tremendous challenge employers face in managing burdensome regulation. He has been a friend to credit unions and Virginia's families by supporting measures that help credit unions better serve their members," says Virginia Credit Union League President Rick Pillow. "On behalf of the 10,500 credit union members residing in his district, we heartily endorse Del. May's campaign and look forward to working with him in support of credit unions' mission to deliver affordable financial products that empower Virginians to succeed and help better our communities."

The Virginia General Assembly each year considers dozens of pieces of legislation that potentially impact the operations of member-owned credit unions or affect their ability to serve their members. The League lobbies lawmakers on behalf of credit unions, supporting legislation that benefits credit unions and their members, while opposing proposals that negatively affect operations and service.

"The Virginia Credit Union League recognizes the laws passed in Richmond and Washington affect the daily operations of our credit unions, which means those laws also affect the families that depend on us as their financial services partner," says Pillow. "That's why it's so important we return lawmakers like Del. May to Richmond, where he can fight for working families by supporting credit unions."

The Virginia Credit Union League is the state trade association for the commonwealth's 179 credit unions, which boast 7.7 million members worldwide, including 3 million Virginians, and more than $93 billion in assets.
