Chartway Federal Credit Union Wins Second Place in Social Responsibility

Feb 24, 2014 by Bethany Scott

Chartway Federal Credit Union and its We Promise Foundation won a 2nd Place Award in the state Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program for Credit Unions. The Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program, sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association, honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities.

Chartway and its Foundation raised $876,935 through various fundraisers while its employee-driven CARE Team raised more than $45,000 and combined contributed more than 4,500 volunteer hours to support its fundraising initiatives and to benefit deserving charities and community organizations.

The centerpiece of its fundraising initiatives was its annual Black Tie & Bogeys event. The event features a charity golf tournament and a black tie gala dinner, which raised $560,000.

These funds supported a number of charity organizations that partner with Chartway's family of credit unions across 10 states, including Make-A-Wish Foundations in Virginia, Texas, Utah, Florida and North Carolina; St. Mar's Home for Disabled Children; the Roc Solid Foundation; Families of Autistic Children of Tidewater; and Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters.

"Thanks to the dedication and commitment of volunteers, community partners and sponsors, our fundraising events were able to keep hope alive for so many brave children facing life-threatening illnesses and enduring tremendous hardship," says Chartway President/CEO Ron Burniske. "It's heartwarming to know that the funds we raise enable our charity partners to brighten the lives of these brave kids, who despite so much hardship in their lives, still find a way to smile."
