BayPort Credit Union won a 3rd Place Award in the state Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program for Credit Unions. The Social Responsibility Recognition Award Program, sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association, honors credit unions for their involvement in community projects and activities.
The credit union's award-winning entry spotlighted its participation in the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign.
BayPort devoted an entire month to the cause, raising $12,500 for the American Heart Association while promoting heart health awareness to staff and the community. Among the initiatives was providing staff with a pedometer and encouraging everyone to walk for at least 30 minutes over the course of a lunch and during breaks.
"Chances are that each of us has family and close friends impacted in some way by heart disease," says BayPort President/CEO George Dudley. "Our campaign sought not only to raise funds for the American Heart Association, but to encourage our community to think about heart health, and the seemingly little things we all can do to ensure a healthier heart."
With total assets in excess of $1.3 billion, BayPort Credit Union is a member-owned, full-service financial institution with branch locations in Newport News, Hampton, Grafton, Gloucester, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Smithfield, Williamsburg and Virginia Beach serving individuals and businesses in the Greater Hampton Roads community.
