On April 1, 2013, ABNB merged with the Norfolk based credit union, Norfolk Federal Credit Union, previously Norfolk Teachers Association Federal Credit Union. Norfolk FCU has a long standing history in the city of Norfolk, founded in 1936 in the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Chesson. It was a huge endeavor that began with a few courageous individuals who began with a meager $21 and grew to over $5 million.

ABNB is proud to welcome Norfolk FCU members to the ABNB family. The existing branch at 1701 Church Street will remain open, and to honor the rich history that Norfolk FCU brought with it, is being named the Chesson branch of ABNB.

"We didn't want Norfolk FCU members to feel that they were losing any part of the history that they have been a part of and are so proud of, so we gave them the opportunity to name their branch. We were pleased to find the overwhelming response was, Chesson, after their founding member." said ABNB CEO, Carl Ratcliff.

To officially welcome the Norfolk FCU members to ABNB, a welcome reception was held at the Chesson branch on Friday, April 12. Many members came in to the branch and met with the senior management and members of ABNB's Board of Directors.

“We are thrilled to join with the Norfolk FCU family. The staff and members have been so receptive to our new relationship. We look forward to the many wonderful things to come,” said Mary Ann Melchers, ABNB's Chairman of the Board of Directors.

For over fifty years ABNB has maintained a commitment to providing quality products and services along with professional and personal service to its members. With thirteen branches and numerous service centers, ABNB currently serves more than 46,000 members and is one of the largest home-based financial institutions in the Hampton Roads area.
