Who We Are

The Virginia Credit Union League is the dues-supported statewide trade association representing the 180 member-owned, not-for-profit credit unions headquartered in the Commonwealth.

Organized in 1934, the League is the voice of Virginia’s credit unions and works to ensure the fulfillment of our affiliates’ vision for a thriving credit union movement.

The League maintains offices in Richmond, the state capital, and Lynchburg.

What We Do

The League’s many services include regulatory and political advocacy, education and training for credit union staff and volunteer officials, and a wide range of informational and operational resources, including compliance assistance. 

The League is dedicated to serving member credit unions and we proudly espouse the "Credit Union Difference" through advocacy, education and public service. 

Our Core Purpose

To preserve and promote Virginia’s credit unions and provide leadership, education and services to empower them to be the preeminent providers of consumer financial services in Virginia.

Our Core Competencies

We fulfill our mission by focusing on three key functions for which credit unions rely on our expertise:

• Advocacy - The League communicates credit unions’ identity and purpose to members, consumers, lawmakers, community leaders, the media and others. In addition, we also represent credit union interests in state and national public and political arenas.
• Education & Training - We provide meaningful, timely professional development opportunities to help credit unions thrive, stay abreast of the ever-changing regulatory environment and remain competitive in the financial services marketplace.
• Compliance - We are our credit unions go-to resource on the laws and regulations affecting their operations.

In addition, our League Service Corporation provides market-proven products and services that empower credit union to best service their members while realizing the substantial cost savings on these products and services made possible by our cooperative "purchasing" power.
